RS Dash Licensing

Frequently Asked Licensing Questions

A common question we get here relates to the interface licenses for RS Dash. Users often purchase a license for one device and want to use that license across multiple devices.

You are free to use an existing license you have purchased on another device as long as that device is running on the same platform that you originally purchased the license on. For example if you bought a license on the Google Play store, then you can use that same license on other Android devices you own that are also connected to the same Google Play store account.

What you cannot do is use a license you purchased for one platform on a device which uses a different platform. For example an app license purchased for an Android device (via Google Play) cannot be used on an Apple's iOS or Microsoft's Windows based devices. The reason for this is that both Apple and Google do not allow the sharing of app licenses with other platforms, presumably as it could result in them missing out on their cut of the app license sale.

To use an app license on another device running the same platform (iOS or Android), use the option cog --> "Restore Purchases" option on the main interface selection page.

If you are looking to change platforms (so switch from Android to iOS for example), it is often possible to get a refund for your original license purchase so you can re-purchase that same license for the new platform.

To elaborate on these restrictions, firstly it is just NOT possible to access any of the competing app store’s licensing from other platforms. If you do a google search for “share app license between iOS and Android”, you will find many many results saying the same thing that is stated here. For example, the hugely successful Minecraft app has their statement about this here (https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360035130651-Transferring-Minecraft-license-between-mobile-devices). Please remember, the app store's are there to make money for their respective owners (Apple, Google etc). There are huge costs involved for them to make these stores available. It would not make business sense for them to allow shared app licenses as it would potentially mean a loss of income for them, and revenue for their competitors, if for example, you could purchase on Apple app store but then use it for apps being served by Google. Google would miss out here, they still have the hosting and supply costs, but none of the revenue from the app sales. As an app developer, we have to abide by their developer and distribution agreements otherwise we would need to remove our apps from their stores and we would be out of business. Unfortunately these are the rules currently in place by the app store providers and we must abide by them.

Still confused? Here are some simple Q&A examples
