RS Dash - Project CARS 3 - Support / Troubleshooting

Project CARS 3 - UDP Interface Setup for PC

The Project CARS 3 racing simulator by Slightly Mad Studios can use UDP to transmit its telemetry to 3rd party applications such as RS Dash. By default this telemetry output is disabled. You will need to turn it on to be able to use RS Dash with Project CARS 3.

Requires RS Dash 2.4 or newer.

Important: At this time the Project CARS 3 game only has telemetry support on the PC version. If Slightly Mad Studios eventually add telemetry support for the consoles then these same instructions will also be applicable for those platforms.

Enabling Project CARS 3 UDP telemetry output on PC

  • Select "Options" from the main menu along the top, then select the "System" tile as shown below.

  • Set "Shared Memory" to "No" (Note: this option will only be visible to PC users)

  • Set "UDP Frequency" to "1" (fastest), or a slower setting if required. If you are experiencing telemetry lag, please try UDP Frequency "4".

  • Set "UDP Protocol Version" to "Project CARS 1".

  • Click "Back"

Note: RS Dash currently uses the "Project CARS 1" UDP protocol as the newer "Project Cars 2" UDP protocol currently contains a bug (as of PC3 release) that prevents it from being usable by RS Dash. A bug report has been filed with Slightly Mad Studios for this issue. Once it is resolved we will endeavour to include support for this protocol option and these instructions will be updated to include the new option.

IMPORTANT: Project CARS 3 only supports outputting its UDP telemetry as a network broadcast. This means it will work with multiple devices by default, however please be aware that some Android devices and some wifi routers will have trouble processing the telemetry when it is sent this way. This will result in telemetry lag or possibly even no telemetry feed at all (in rare cases). If you are experiencing lag issues, please check your router settings and try disabling settings such as "UDP Flood Protection", "DOS (Denial of Service) Protection", "Multicast Flood Protection" or similarly named. Lag issues can sometimes be resolved by slowing down the UDP rate, try using UDP 4 if you are experiencing telemetry lag to see if that helps. PC users experiencing issues can switch to shared memory mode to resolve this issue.

Project CARS 3 - Shared Memory Interface Setup for PC

The Project CARS 3 racing simulator by Slightly Mad Studios also offers a Shared Memory interface to read its telemetry. For those PC users who are unable to use the UDP telemetry option, RS Transmitter can be used with Shared Memory option to transmit telemetry to RS Dash. By default this telemetry output is disabled. You will need to turn it on to be able to use RS Dash with Project CARS 3 Shared Memory.

Installing RS Transmitter

  • Download, install and run the latest version of RS Transmitter from here

  • Click on the PC2 tile for Project Cars 2 (as PCARS3 uses the PC2 shared memory protocol format)

  • Click on the PC3 tile in the RS Dash app.

  • Set the "IP Address" field to be the same as the "Device IP" value shown on the RS Dash app main screen (see screenshot below)

setup1_pc3.jpg
  • Set "Use Broadcast Mode" to "Unticked"

  • Set "Update Speed" to "15" (you can set this number higher if you experience telemetry lag)

  • Click "Start Transmitter"

Enabling Project CARS 3 Shared Memory telemetry output in the game

  • Run Project Cars 3

  • Select "Options" from the main menu along the top, then select the "System" tile as shown below.

pc3_instructions1.jpg
  • Set "Shared Memory" to "Project CARS 3"

  • Set "UDP Frequency" to "Off"

  • The "UDP Protocol Version" has no effect when UDP is set to Off, so it can be set to anything.

Project CARS 3 - Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure that you have followed the steps above to configure the interface correctly.

  • Verify that your device is connected to the same Wifi network as your gaming machine.

  • Verify that your wireless devices are connected using the same Wifi frequency (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz) as your gaming machine if that is also connected wirelessly.

  • Try enabling the "Legacy NetCode" option in RS Dash v1.9p (or newer). You also need to set your Project CARS 3 UDP Frequency to 4.

  • Please ensure you have read the "IMPORTANT" notice in the Project CARS 3 - Interface Setup (UDP) section above, regarding telemetry lag.

  • See the general troubleshooting section here for additional troubleshooting tips

  • VPN software may interfere with UDP telemetry.
Thanks to Steve for this one (UDP telemetry from PC to mobile phone had stopped working for him)

"I’ve managed to get it working.

I got a friend to help me setup port forwarding on my router settings however, this didn’t appear to have any effect, even after restarting the router. I’m have Nord VPN on my pc but wasn’t connected to it, although I had used it in-between the days of using RS-Rash and for some reason in my networks list NordLynx was listed as connected. I uninstalled NordVPN, restarted the machine and now it works. So I guess the VPN must have had an effect on the network settings somehow?"

  • BT SmartHub / Superhub Troubleshooting

A big thanks to Peter for providing this information for the BT/Virgin Media routers

"I finally managed to get RSDash working with BT Smarthub 6.  The approach also work with Virgin Media’s Superhub 3.0.  It’s really simple and doesn’t require port forwarding. All you have to do is set the PS4 with a static IP address which requires a manual network setup and then put that IP address as a DMZ on the router.

So for manual setup on PS4 you select your IP address within your routers IP range:

BT is 192.168.1.nnn

Virgin is 192.168.0.nnn

So select your IP address (making sure it’s not already assigned)

Eg 192.168.1.64

Subnet 255.255.255.0

Gateway and Primary DNS as per previous settings for BT both 192.168.1.254

On the BT router go to advanced settings >> Firewall >> Port Forwarding >> Configuration

Set DMZ to on and select the PS4 by IP address and save setting.

Similar menu options on Virginmedia.

I’d restart the router and PS4 then you’re good to go.
